2CentreThe cyber security company FireEye kick-started 2014 with the launch of its first Asia Pacific Centre of Excellence (COE), in partnership with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). The newly established centre serves FireEye as its APAC headquarter and will be the office of 100 cyber security professionals the company is planning to hire over the next 2 years for its global customer support and fighting the ever growing threats and challenges in the digital age.

The core of FireEye is the invention of its purpose-built, virtual machine-based security platform that provides real-time threat protection to enterprises and governments worldwide against highly sophisticated cyber-attacks, such as next-generation firewalls, IPS, anti-virus, and gateways. The FireEye Threat Prevention Platform provides real-time, dynamic threat protection without the use of signatures to protect an organization across the primary threat vectors, including Web, email, and files and across the different stages of an attack life cycle.

IDA is working with FireEye to align their training programmes, such as Dynamic Threat Intelligence, Detection Efficacy Analytics and Threat Response, to the National Infocomm Competency Framework. This will focus on building emerging skillsets which are critical to the industry.  The two organisations will also work closely to build partnerships with local ICT companies.

FireEye will invest in the technology and manpower resources required for their Threat Protection Platform and IDA will introduce the local ICT companies to develop up to 10 cyber security solutions on FireEye’s platform.

“Advanced attacks are a daily routine across Asia,” said Mr. Aziz. “To help understand the region’s unique cyber-attack tools and techniques, establishing FireEye’s Centre of Excellence in Singapore is a strategic initiative to help organizations in the region.”

FireEye selected Singapore due to its rich regional talent pool, world-class research environment and information systems infrastructure.

“Through this partnership with IDA, the FireEye COE will help to enable Singapore to stay at the forefront of pioneering cyber defence technology,” added Mr. Aziz.  “It will be our APAC headquarters, strengthening regional coverage and widening our capabilities in this changing threat landscape. Most of all, the COE represents our commitment to Singapore and the larger ASEAN market.”

“Cyber security is a global concern.  In recent years, cyber threats have been increasing in size, scale and sophistication. For these reasons, the National Infocomm Security Committee established a National Cyber Security Masterplan 2018 (NCSM) which aims to secure Singapore’s cyber environment and strengthen its resilience against cyber threats.  IDA’s collaboration with FireEye seeks to do that by focusing on training cyber security professionals and developing next generation cyber security solutions through this Centre of Excellence,” Ms. Jacqueline Poh said.

Ranked as the Fastest Growing Communications/Networking Company in Deloitte’s 2013 Technology Fast 500™ and hailed by The Wall Street Journal as one of the Top 5 IPOs of 2013 as well as awarded their prestigious Technology Innovation Award in 2012, FireEye’s technology represents the future of cyber defences, going beyond traditional signature based approaches.
